A 4-hour seminar/ workshop for leaders, health care professionals and care staff.
The focus of this 4-hour education is on the quality of the connection between the carer and the person with dementia, building competencies in the psychological and emotional aspects of care that flow on to also benefit clinical care practices such as how to engage while providing wound care.
The education facilitates the fundamental shift from being emotionally disengaged to being emotionally engaged creating the foundation for an equal and respectful relationship that humanises the experience of dementia. This is also the basis for solving behaviours of concern and facilitating rementia – the recovery of lost abilities.
Specific Learning Objectives
Participants will learn to:
- Facilitate rehabilitation and independence
- Ensure people with dementia feel respected, valued, and safe
- Empower the person to make choices and decisions
- Support the person in regaining their lost identity
- Understand the many ways people with dementia communicate their needs and wants, approvals, and disapprovals
- Deeply understand people with dementia, how they think and feel
- Foster improved relationships between staff, residents, and their families
Spark of Life® Education
Spark of Life’s specialised education is immenselypractical. With its focus on the psychosocial aspect of care, it fills an important gap in current dementia education.
